Two women died Thursday evening in a Toledo crash that began when a Lucas County deputy tried to pull over a driver, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. WOWO reports the crash happened about 5:54 p.m. near North Holland Sylvania Road and Nebraska Avenue.

Troopers say Bria E. Boone, 32, didn't stop on northbound I-475, took the Airport Highway exit and turned onto Holland Sylvania. Near Nebraska, she lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda CR-V driven by Laura J. Anaple, 64.

  • Boone: died at the scene
  • Anaple: died at University of Toledo Medical Center
  • Juvenile passenger: ProMedica Toledo Hospital, life-threatening injuries
  • Sheriff says: the deputy saw her weaving and texting

13abc reports the juvenile is Boone's son, a young boy. A witness said a neighbor pulled him from the car, and that the deputy appeared to lose sight of the vehicle before it crashed. The patrol is still investigating.

The sheriff's office had tried to stop Boone's 2018 Ford Escape on I-475 before the crash, according to the patrol.

Prosecutors dropped all charges against Eljay Crisp-Carr in the Old West End Festival shooting

Prosecutors dropped all charges Friday against Eljay Crisp-Carr, 20, who spent about five months in jail after the June 6 shooting that wounded 12. He faced 25 counts of attempted murder and 26 counts of felonious assault, and he told WTVG he wasn't at the festival.

Investigators believe nine of the 12 people shot were bystanders

Citing “new and developing evidence,” the prosecutor's office asked for the dismissal, and Judge Lori Olender granted it. It's without prejudice, so charges can be refiled. Prosecutors told his attorney in September about discovery “that may support his defense,” and police say their investigation continues.

  • Another man charged: still in jail, back in court Nov. 9
  • A juvenile: charged with bringing a gun, not firing it
  • His mother says “a whole bunch of lawsuits” are coming

The case against Crisp-Carr ran from June 6 to Oct. 30

  1. June 6A shooting at the wounds 12 people.
  2. SeptemberProsecutors tell Crisp-Carr's attorney about discovery that may support his defense.
  3. Oct. 30Prosecutors drop all charges without prejudice, and Crisp-Carr is released from jail.
  4. Nov. 9Another man charged in the shooting is scheduled back in court.

A Michigan woman filed a class-action lawsuit over Toledo's Oct. 20 chemical leak

A Michigan woman has filed a federal class-action lawsuit over the Oct. 20 chemical leak at the M.C. Tank Terminal site on Progress Ave. Kathy Thiede of Erie sued M.C. Tank Transport and the Kenan Advantage Group on Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Monroe News reports the suit seeks damages for affected residents.

The proposed class would reach far beyond the 3-mile shelter-in-place zone

  • Evacuated: nearly 1,000 residents within a mile
  • Shelter in place: three miles, reaching into Monroe County, Michigan
  • ProMedica: treated dozens for possibly related symptoms

Her suit would cover everyone within 15 miles, well beyond the 3-mile zone. Thiede, whose home is about 2.1 miles from the site, says she smelled chemicals outside before the order. The U.S. EPA said its testing didn't detect hazardous chemicals above applicable screening levels. Multiple lawsuits are also pending in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Election 2026

Both parties are working northwest Ohio hard in the final days before Tuesday's election

If you've noticed the candidates around town, here's why. Republicans' bus tour made stops Friday in Bellefontaine, Toledo, Ottawa, and Defiance. The Crescent-News says Vivek Ramaswamy and running mate Sen. Rob McColley of Napoleon spoke in Defiance to perhaps 200 supporters. Derek Merrin, who is trying to unseat Rep. Marcy Kaptur, was there too.

The Wrap

Snow on Halloween? It's only happened seven times in Toledo, and four of those were just a trace. The last measurable snow came in 2023, with seven-tenths of an inch at Toledo Express Airport. Before that, you have to go back to 1954. The normal high today is 58 and the low is 40, and this year should land close to that. Toss a jacket over the costume and you're set.
