  • Love Fest 2025 will take place on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Love Wall at 1209 Adams St., featuring music, food and community activities (entry is $5 to support Equality Toledo).  WTOL

CRIME NEWS

  • Marcus Gaines, a 34-year-old former postal worker in Toledo, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to a drug trafficking scheme that sent packages with powder cocaine and heroin laced with fentanyl along his route—he was paid $500 for each delivery and will face sentencing on Oct. 30.  WTOL

  • The Toledo Lucas County Main Library shows Journey of Beauty, an exhibit featuring 59 art pieces by 20 Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania that runs until August 2. The collection spans more than a century + it gives Toledo residents a look at the sisters' long creative legacy.  Toledo Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Toledo Public Schools announced plans to ban cell phones during school hours in all classrooms starting next academic year—comprehensive high schools will use YONDR pouches while K-8 schools will use secure lockboxes. The change responds to state law and Ohio House Bill 250, and details on policy implementation will be shared soon.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rocky Ridge Development LLC began mining on 30 acres near Byrne Rd and Airport Highway in South Toledo even though the land is not zoned for industrial use, and residents say the dust and noise have made life harder. City Council will vote on three ordinances on Tuesday, July 15 (to address the zoning change) as the dispute continues.  Toledo Free Press
  • Baldemar Velasquez, president of FLOC, said he submitted a union-backed amnesty proposal in Washington, D.C. and he is asking domestic unions to join his international effort for legal status for undocumented workers while Ohio lawmakers work on a bill that eases deportations & bans sanctuary cities.  WTOL
