COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AAA reported that drivers in Toledo continue to face issues with dead batteries and stuck vehicles after a heavy winter storm — calls remain high as motorists work through challenging conditions. AAA urges drivers to check tires, windshield wipers and stock emergency kits to help keep everyone safe.  Spectrum News 1
  • The Toledo Auto Show returns to Glass City Center. Organizers say the event will draw local auto fans together (details are yet to be announced).  WTVG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Water gushed from a frozen pipe in a downtown apartment on Jan. 30, causing water damage that led building management to begin repairs promptly.  WTVG
  • Water poured from a building door near Toledo School for the Arts at 14th and Adams early this morning and froze on the road; city crews arrived by 7:45 a.m. and shut off the water by 7:50 as they investigated the cause.  WTOL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Toledo Zoo welcomes Nuka (a 21-year-old male polar bear) back to start breeding with Crystal (a 27-year-old female who has raised nine cubs) as part of a conservation effort; bear viewing may change during his acclimation.  Spectrum News 1
  • A free public event titled 'Our Changing Climate, Our Maumee: Understanding the Impacts and Taking Action Today' will take place Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Maumee Branch Library where climate lobbyist Rob Schuster will lead a discussion on local climate effects and practical household steps.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo reminds residents to clear snow from sidewalks and avoid pushing it into roads to keep pedestrians safe, while the city supports elderly and disabled neighbors through the Snow Angels Program (a local initiative to ease snow removal).  Spectrum News 1
  • Lake Erie is 95% iced over and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office warns that no ice is ever fully safe. Residents should check ice thickness, avoid weak spots near bridges and docks, and never go alone.  WTOL
