  • Federal funds for Ohio’s MEP programs were frozen on Dec. 5, forcing the Center for Innovative Food Technology to lay off most staff on Dec. 14 and impacting 20 businesses; local groups provided short-term funds to keep its cooperative kitchen open, though its future remains uncertain & many owners worry.  Spectrum News 1
  • Residents along Devils Hole Road in Wood County say new data centers in Bowling Green are causing changes (sparking concerns about local infrastructure). Local developers plan to address these issues in upcoming meetings.  The Blade
  • Annin Flagmakers in Coshocton is producing 67,000 American flags each week ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The Ohio firm, known for its long tradition of flag craftsmanship, supports Team USA as its athletes prepare to compete.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FirstEnergy, the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel and consumer advocates announced an agreement that would offer $276 million in consumer restitution plus $20 million to help low-income households with utility bills and weatherization support—in a plan pending Commission approval; the settlement follows a November order related to House Bill 6.  Spectrum News 1

HEALTH NEWS

  • Junction Coalition and local partners hosted a lead screening and toy giveaway at Nexus Health Care on Saturday, where parents learned that children must be screened for lead exposure before receiving free toys (a new step to safeguard kids’ health).  The Blade
  • Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Kara Wente announced today a $5 million grant for pediatric cancer research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The funding will support studies at recipients (Cincinnati Children’s, Cleveland Clinic, Dayton Children’s, Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, and Nationwide) to improve early cancer detection and treatment for children.  Toledo Legal News
