  • LCCS Angel Tree simplifies gift giving for foster kids—donors pick up a tag from a tree and drop off a new gift in the food court donation box. The campaign aims to brighten the season for local foster children.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Toledo Ritter Planetarium will present Santa’s Secret Star—a Christmas-themed children’s program that teaches about constellations and celestial navigation using characters like Santa Claus and Rudolph—through Dec. 20, with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and 1 p.m. on Saturdays.  The University of Toledo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UToledo will hold fall commencement ceremonies on December 13 at John F. Savage Arena to award 1,407 degrees and certificates to the final Class of 2025 graduates—students from different colleges will be honored at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with tickets required due to capacity limits.  The University of Toledo
  • The University of Toledo Department of Music will hold its Holiday Showcase on Sunday, Dec. 7th at 7 p.m. at Doermann Theatre—students, faculty, and special guests will perform holiday classics. General admission tickets cost $10 in advance and are free for students with a Rocket ID.  The University of Toledo
  • Sachin Aryal, who came from Nepal, will graduate on December 13 with a Ph.D. in molecular medicine at UToledo after earning awards for his work bridging bioinformatics and medicine. He plans to move to Pennsylvania and pursue clinical research in cardiovascular disease.  The University of Toledo
  • Dr. Eli Visbal at the University of Toledo used the James Webb Space Telescope to study a star cluster called LAP1-B that may be the first Population III stars formed after the Big Bang—these stars have very low metal levels.   • This week on Face the State, the Mid-Ohio Food Collective is tackling rising food demand and medical debt while examining the Baby Olivia Act—a proposed measure aimed at supporting child welfare. The episode will air soon and focuses on challenges that affect local residents.  WTOL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that a mobile crisis service for youth in mental distress is now operating in all 88 counties and offers free in-person help via the 988 Lifeline. The mobile team responds within 60 minutes — it works from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays with plans to expand to 24/7 support by April 2028.  Toledo Legal News
