COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dave’s Turkey Chase 5K will bring thousands to downtown Toledo on Thanksgiving morning with a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile walk and a fun run for kids — new indoor space at Glass City Center will offer packet pickup, Santa’s Village, refreshments and race activities. Organizers said the event benefits Cherry Street Mission Ministries through donations while families and competitive runners get ready to begin the holiday.  WTOL
  • For nearly a decade, Catching Up With Jack has supported pediatric cancer research and helped local families—Toledo residents can help keep this mission going by staying engaged with the program.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stellantis has recalled nearly 113,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid SUVs, including Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, after sand left in the engine block was found to increase the risk of engine failure or fire — owners are advised not to drive their vehicles and should check their VINs as repair notices will be mailed from Dec. 29 to Dec. 31 while a permanent fix is developed.  WTOL
  • American Cruise Lines has added Toledo as a stop on its Great Lakes cruises+ this move joins Detroit and Mackinac Island after Cleveland was removed, boosting Toledo’s status as a key destination on the water.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weird Al Yankovic will visit Toledo on Oct. 10 for his BIGGER and WEIRDER 2026 Tour at the Huntington Center in downtown Toledo (tickets go on sale on Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.).  WTOL
  • Professor Deborah Orloff is hosting her solo exhibition Archive of Absence at River House Arts — 425 Jefferson Ave — through Dec. 15, featuring high-resolution photographs of damaged family photos that link memory and identity. The exhibition is free to the public.  The University of Toledo

  • Dan Smith explained how water towers show simple engineering and physics by detailing their design and function—his demonstration makes it easy for locals to understand basic science concepts.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo City Council approved a 15-year property tax exemption at Tuesday’s meeting for a $75 million shopping center development on the former Sears and Elder-Beerman site in Westgate (covering 247,000 square feet) with plans for restaurants, retail, and sports uses; the project, subject to a compensation agreement with the Washington Local School District, is expected to open in 2027 (creating about 140 jobs).  WTOL
  • Over 150 residents from Anthony Wayne and nearby communities met at the Bunker Bar last week to urge a pause on data centers, advanced manufacturing, solar fields, and similar projects until local leaders provide more transparency on zoning and public input. Local officials will host a town hall on November 20 at Anthony Wayne High School—calling on residents to share feedback and help shape future planning.  Toledo Free Press
  • A Toledo family said that during last week's demolition on Maplewood Avenue, part of a condemned building hit their home and caused damage to the roof, gutters, foundation, and walls + leaving them to cover costly repairs. City officials cited immunity from liability + and said they are looking into the incident as the family relies on homeowners’ insurance and calls for better advance notice for future demolitions.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • UToledo Health now offers transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy — a noninvasive treatment — for patients with major depression who have not found relief from usual treatments. The therapy requires daily sessions over several weeks and is available with a referral from a doctor.  The University of Toledo
  • Dani’s Place, a new 17,000 square foot mental health facility in Toledo, will help patients move from state hospital care to independent living by offering a voluntary program with therapy and life skills training and is set to open in 2026. The center, named to honor Danielle Leedy, provides private bedrooms, a library, a fitness area and group rooms (residents can stay up to 90 days).  Toledo Free Press
  • Overdose deaths in Lucas County have dropped sharply over the past five years—experts say more work is needed to fight drug addiction as the crisis shifts. Local leaders are reexamining strategies to address the ongoing challenges of substance abuse.  WTOL
