COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grand Lodge Food Pantry at 1947 Franklin Ave will give away 200 ready-to-cook Thanksgiving dinners Thursday starting at 11:30 a.m.—the program aims to serve local residents in need.  The Blade
  • Local chefs Marcus Hartford, Jameshia Polk, and Rickey Szymanski are joining forces to serve free Thanksgiving dinners on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 5825 Jackman Rd (Chow Boss Food Trailer’s usual spot) in Toledo to help those in need.  WTVG
  • Dennis Janco, the longtime director of 13abc, was remembered for his years of dedicated service and leadership in local broadcasting—colleagues and community members reflect on his lasting impact.  WTVG
  • Toledo will kick off its holiday season by launching its first International Holiday Market — a new event that celebrates global traditions on local streets.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Cruise Lines has added Toledo as a port stop on its 14-day Great Lakes cruise itinerary debuting in 2026 and removed Cleveland from the route—officials note Cleveland may join in future years. Toledo welcomed its first cruise ship in over 20 years on May 29 when 200 passengers came aboard.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Catharine S. Eberly Center is hosting its fifth annual Toy Drive to help student parents by collecting new, unopened toys at donation sites on Main or Health Science Campus until Dec. 1. Student parents can register for the Holiday Toy Exchange—set from Dec. 8 through Dec. 12—to receive one gift per child plus diapers, coloring materials, and one book per family.  The University of Toledo
  • Three Perrysburg High School students—Annabelle Bucko, Amelia Mazzarella, and Jordan Nahhas—competed at the Ohio Thespian Expo on Nov. 1 at Olentangy Liberty High School in Powell and earned superior and excellent ratings, with Nahhas making history by being cast in the statewide production of 'Ragtime.'  WTOL
  • Daniel Pfaltzgraf, a UToledo instructor, was named to the annual '20 Under 40' list with six alumni for his work in digital innovation and his role at Nationwide—earning national patents and inspiring the Glass City. He also serves as the on-field host for the Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye while sharing his passion for local leadership.  The University of Toledo
  • Toledo Public Schools and community partners are working to help homeless families and students get stable support — Kenya Lewis and her three children spent nine months without a home and returned from Nevada to receive assistance.  The Blade

  • Toledo officials completed the final evacuation at Riverside Mobile Home Park on Monday—longtime resident Susan Luttrell, who had lived there for over eight years, moved out of her trailer with help from friends.  The Blade

  • Gordie Cowan, a former forward who played for two Toledo pro hockey teams in the 1950s and 1960s, was elected to the Toledo Hockey Hall of Fame — the honor recognizes his lasting impact on local hockey.  The Blade
  • Liberty Center's football team, the Tigers, thrives on a supportive atmosphere at Rex Lingruen Stadium—fans boost their performance during each home game.  The Blade
  • Toledo will host a Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 27 with a 5K run, a one-mile walk and virtual options available; nearly 1 million people signed up statewide for Thanksgiving Day races in 2023 according to Run Signup.  Spectrum News 1
