COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The YWCA in downtown Toledo completed the first phase of its $13.5M upgrade project that began nearly three years ago (a key milestone in updating the facility). The completed phase paves the way for further improvements to modernize the space.  WTOL
  • WTOL 11 is collecting new, unwrapped gifts for its 2025 Gift of Joy toy drive—donated items will be given to children in Lucas County Children Services.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UToledo is hosting the Tech419 Pitch Competition today where local entrepreneurs pitch new ideas to start businesses. The event uses a 'Shark Tank'-style format—designed to support local innovation.  WTOL
  • Happyland Fragrances is a Toledo business now led by Chloe Michael after her father, EJ Wells, passed away; she uses his old notes to create 38 fragrances sold online that aid local addiction recovery and suicide prevention programs—supporting groups like the Zepf Center and Team Recovery Toledo. CULTURE NEWS

  • 20 North Gallery is showing Mary Dawson’s exhibit Enduring Beauty featuring wall-mounted ceramics and photorealistic floral paintings—an event that runs through December 20th with an Artist’s Talk on November 23rd from 2 to 5 p.m.  Toledo City Paper
  • Jeff Stewart from Toledo performed at Cinco De Mayo in Rossford and spoke about his journey as a songwriter and the need for empathy in his music. He released his album Red Eyed & Blue at the end of 2024 (a ten-song record) and plans to release a companion album in 2026 while continuing to tour locally.  Toledo City Paper

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Toledo Public Schools will suspend most Head Start and Early Childhood Education programs on Dec. 1 due to the government shutdown, affecting over 1,000 students and 124 employees while Title I pre-K classes continue. The district said services will resume if federal funds arrive soon after the shutdown ends.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a public meeting in Perrysburg Township on Wednesday, residents and local officials discussed a proposed Maumee River pedestrian and bicycle bridge near Rossford, with opinions divided about its benefits and costs+ some asking for further review. The meeting highlighted community concerns and support as the project moves forward.  The Blade

HEALTH NEWS

  • ProMedica officials said Friday that a new multi-year network agreement with Medical Mutual was finalized—Medical Mutual and Medical Mutual-Paramount members will keep receiving care from ProMedica hospitals. The deal covers all insurance products including commercial, employer-sponsored, ACA and Medicare Advantage.  WTVG
  • Owner Katie Williamson opened Copper River Wellness, a yoga studio in South Toledo on January 13 to offer diverse classes, monthly sound bowl events and kids programs — meeting a range of needs while building community connection.   • Seven area schools are leaving the Toledo Area Athletic Conference after the 2025–26 school year to form a new football league called the Great Lakes Conference, adding Sand Creek High School; competition will begin in the 2026–27 school year. (Edon, Hilltop, Montpelier, and North Central are Ohio schools while Erie-Mason, Summerfield, and Whiteford are in Monroe County, Michigan.)  WTOL
