COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents near Capistrano and Opper Street said the OmniSource recycling facility on North Detroit caused constant noise for months and led them to file complaints with news reporters. The City of Toledo said it received five noise complaints and stopped a loud steel die cutting process—residents reported Tuesday was the first quiet day in months though many worry the silence might not last.  WTVG
  • Toledo Zoo Lights Before Christmas is competing for USA Today's 10Best best zoo lights title, with voting open once per day until noon on Dec. 1. The zoo will kick off the display on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. with 400 synchronized drones and a second drone show at 8:30 p.m.  WTOL
  • Toledo Zoo is hosting a contest to win a Behind the Scenes Tour Package worth up to $435—this package includes a guided tour for up to six guests aged 6 and older, six admission tickets, and one parking pass—with entries accepted until November 20 at 11:59 p.m.  WTOL
  • Lucas County Canine Care & Control is asking the community to donate dry dog food to reopen its Pet Food Pantry at 1301 Monroe St. in downtown Toledo—helping keep pets and families together as demand grows amid reduced SNAP benefits. Donations of any brand are welcome to meet the urgent need.  WTOL
  • The Toledo Refining Company will donate $50,000 to several local organizations to help feed those affected by the loss of SNAP benefits—this donation aims to support people in need as the organizations adjust to the changes.  WTOL

  • Since 1921, the Mancy family has built a Toledo restaurant empire that includes a steakhouse, Italian grill, and a well-known pizza bar. The fourth generation is joining the business — promising to bring fresh energy to a legacy of quality dining.  Toledo City Paper
  • A developer announced on social media that a new Italian dining concept will open soon in Ostrich Towne. Further details (including the opening date) have not been provided.  WTOL

  • Amanda Worthington, a 2009 Anthony Wayne graduate, will perform 11 songs from her new album ‘Christmas with Amanda Worthington’ on Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. at Community of Christ Lutheran Church in Whitehouse, and her hour-long performance will include a free-will offering to support the church building fund — and Salem Lutheran Church in North Toledo.  Toledo Free Press

  • Navarre Elementary School marked its *100* birthday on Thursday when past and present students and staff visited the campus. The event honored a century of education and community service.  WTOL

  • At a sheriff sale on Thursday, Lucas County sold 7 tax-delinquent properties out of 22 with bids set at the tax owed, and local bidder Bryan Daniels won a vacant property on Waybridge Road that he plans to repair and may rent—county officials said the sale aims to place problem properties in responsible hands and boost tax revenue.  WTVG
