- ➤ A cat rescue caring for up to 250 animals nearly lost its money when Northwestern Water and Sewer District charged nearly $3,000 instead of the usual $90 water bill — a billing error that drained its funds — and the refund check is ready for pickup today. WTVG

- ➤ Toledo Lucas County Public Library will host Alyson Stoner on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Main Library to discuss their memoir, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything, which tells of their journey from Toledo to Hollywood and their work in advocacy (Stoner is a New York Times best-selling author and serves on the SAG-AFTRA board). This event offers the community a chance to hear firsthand about the challenges and successes that shaped a local talent into a noted author and mental health practitioner. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New Concepts Behavioral Health has placed support staff in 15 Toledo Public Schools to help students cope with trauma from the opioid crisis. The case managers work at schools like Leverette Elementary to offer guidance and practical help to students and their families. WTVG
- ➤ Anthony Wayne Board of Education members Kyle Miller and Mike Stamm are running unopposed for four-year terms as they plan to replace a departing member; applications for the open board seat are due Nov. 3 — the board will vote on the replacement on Dec. 8 while also preparing for upcoming retirements of the treasurer and superintendent. - ➤ UToledo Online will host a week of events from November 3 to November 7 to celebrate National Distance Learning Week where students, faculty and staff will explore online education and learn best practices. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ University of Toledo researchers worked in early June at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge to set up nearly 300 sensors on a 16-acre site—measuring soil, water and plant data to study how freshwater coasts respond to flooding.
