- ➤ A Halloween dog costume contest took place at O-Deer Diner in Perrysburg on Oct. 12—photos show creative canine costumes by local pet owners. The Blade
- ➤ Volunteers in Ottawa County spent the weekend building beds for local children in a Community Build Day organized by the Oak Harbor chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace — 20 new beds will soon be stored before delivery to families in need. WTOL
- ➤ Jacob Cebina, a father and youth football coach, received a new high-efficiency furnace and air conditioner on Sunday — the gift was provided free by Zimmerman Heating Company in partnership with Lennox’s Feel The Love program after his mother nominated him for his hard work to keep his boys warm. - ➤ The Diocese of Toledo announced that St. Michael the Archangel Parish at 420 Sandusky St. will close in January — the church will soon stop holding regular services and community programs. The Blade

- ➤ William Gorgas is a junior at UToledo who switched from computer science engineering to applied physics after discovering quantum computing. He works in an optics lab with Dr. Aniruddha Ray—he co-authored a journal publication and presented his research at a local physics meeting. The University of Toledo
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ohio medical leaders warn that upcoming budget cuts may end federal funding for HIV prevention programs and force state budgets to cover high medication costs that run into the thousands each month. Equitas Health officials say that without Medicaid support – relied on by nearly 40% of patients – many living with HIV could lose vital treatment and testing services. Spectrum News 1
- ➤ Three Toledo plasma donation centers saw heavy traffic this morning as front desks turned away extra donors—staff work to manage the high demand for plasma that is needed for life-saving treatments. The centers will continue accepting appointments later today. The Blade
