ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Amazon is beginning construction on a 200,000-foot warehouse on a 37-acre site off Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township that will cost $30 million and add 150 full-time jobs—work is set to start by the end of the month. The project will include a 10-year tax break that aids Rossford Schools and Penta Career Center even as the township faces lost revenue and seeks voter approval for a police levy. WTOL
- ➤ Utility rates are rising and straining Toledo residents as the cost of electricity and gas increases. Officials will review help options to ease the higher bills (a cost challenge many face). WTVG
- ➤ Local families are paying more for electricity as an expired group rate and higher demand from data centers push up costs, according to Mark Frye of Palmer Energy. He said switching to LED bulbs may help lower consumption, but power companies are expanding grid capacity with little relief in sight. WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials have released guidelines for the upcoming Nov. 4 general election to help Northwest Ohio voters know where and when to vote. Voters can cast ballots in-person (6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) and use early, absentee, and accessible voting options (absentee ballot requests are due by Oct. 28 at 8:30 p.m.). WTOL
- ➤ Six Toledo City Council members are co-sponsoring a new ordinance that will require landlords to provide dumpsters for eviction set outs—an effort to reduce trash and blight in neighborhoods. The measure will be discussed at upcoming council meetings. WTOL
- ➤ Toledo Fire and Rescue Department received a $23,500 federal grant under the Port Security Grant Program to buy new equipment and safety gear for its water rescue team. The grant will also support additional training with drones—improving the department’s maritime emergency response along the Maumee River and port. WTOL
- ➤ Lawmakers overrode Gov. DeWine's veto—removing substitute, replacement, and emergency levies from future ballots. Experts say that after November only long-term property tax or income tax levies will appear, offering modest relief to taxpayers while school districts may contest undervalued property sales.
