  • Today, Toledo invites volunteers to join its Snow Angels initiative to shovel neighbors' snow during the winter months (volunteers will soon receive schedules and instructions from the city). The program aims to help residents manage heavy snowfall and support community care.  The Blade
  • The Toledo Buddy Walk returned for its 24th year — uniting 1,400 residents to celebrate, support and raise awareness for people with Down syndrome.  WTOL

  • A Toledo Habitat for Humanity construction site was vandalized this week and site supervisor Jon Lockerman said he was shocked by the damage—cleanup is underway as the nonprofit moves on to repair the site.  The Blade

  • The Holland-Springfield-Spencer Historical Society Museum now displays new firefighting memorabilia in honor of Fire Prevention Month—urging visitors to explore local fire service history. The exhibit is open to all through October.  The Blade
  • At the inaugural Vistula Artist Market in Toledo's original neighborhood, local resident Anne Spenny browsed handcrafted items—she said she loves checking out local markets.  The Blade

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two new classical academies are in the planning stage as growing local interest in traditional education builds on Kathy Williams’ childhood dream of opening a school—community leaders and educators are reviewing plans to bring this vision to life.  The Blade
  • UToledo will host the 28th Annual Banned Books Vigil on October 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carlson Library first floor, where students, staff and community members will join presentations on free speech and censorship—donations and banned books from the University Bookstore are welcomed.  The University of Toledo
  • UT law school will host a panel at the University of Toledo where legal experts will talk about wrongful convictions and say the Supreme Court has ignored flaws in past cases — the event will take place soon.  The Blade
  • UToledo and The Blade will host a panel discussion on artificial intelligence on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. in Doermann Theatre. Dr. William McCreary and four national panelists—moderated by Pulitzer Prize-winning David Shribman—will look at the benefits and risks of AI while free registration and free parking in Area 1N are available.  The University of Toledo
  • To cope with rising grocery prices, Toledo resident Mairim Vargas attended the first library garden workshop to learn how to grow herbs at home—she began her garden a month ago by planting a shoot of cilantro.  The Blade

  • Sylvania police Chief Danilynn Miller—who worked in law enforcement for 31 years—said many government agencies struggle to hire workers. A career event will connect job seekers with these agencies and more details will come soon.  The Blade

  • UToledo Health will host its third annual trunk-or-treat event on Oct 25 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. outside the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center—offering free candy, donuts, face painting and more for a safe daytime Halloween celebration for families.  The University of Toledo
