COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Toledo Zoo is celebrating fall today with Harvest Fest, a month-long event included with general zoo admission.  WTOL
  • The Salvation Army – Greater Toledo is hosting walk-in hiring sessions for volunteer bellringers for its Red Kettle campaign on Friday, October 3 and Friday, October 10 at 620 N. Erie St. Volunteers must bring a photo ID and a social security card or birth certificate for the interview.  WTVG
  • The Spirit for Sierah Color Run will be held Saturday—at the University of Toledo—to honor Sierah Joughin, a former student.  WTOL
  • Today, The Salvation Army held a ribbon cutting to open the Flourishing Wellspring Drop-in Center for Women — a safe space for those at risk of human trafficking — that will offer services and support to local women.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UAW Local 14 President Tony Totty said on Wednesday during the union’s 90th anniversary that GM will remove its EV production technology from the Toledo Propulsion Systems facility on Alexis Road — leaving the plant’s future production uncertain — in the coming days as part of a new mandate.  WTOL

CRIME NEWS

  • An employee at Garfield Elementary in Toledo was placed on leave without pay after a paraprofessional allegedly grabbed an 8-year-old student by his neck last week—leaving bruise marks and damaging his backpack—and school officials contacted Lucas County Children’s Services to launch a full investigation.  WTVG
  • Vandals broke into a Habitat for Humanity home on Piddock Rd early Tuesday morning and damaged drywall, delaying the move-in day for a local family—Habitat is asking community members to volunteer and donate to help replace the materials.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation hosted its Fall 2025 Job Fair at Savage Arena where about 400 students and over 90 companies met to discuss internships, full-time and part-time positions. This is the first of two annual fairs aimed at helping students secure work.  The University of Toledo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lucas County voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4 to elect 98 officials including candidates for mayor and city council seats as detailed in the Toledo Free Press Voter’s Guide. The guide provides background on leading candidates and explains ballot issues such as a tax levy for Lucas County Children Services — key details for making an informed vote.  Toledo Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University have joined forces to raise awareness about veteran suicide by sharing ideas on mental health support for veterans. The two schools will work with community partners—using their football rivalry to reach fans and veterans alike.  The Blade

  • A local college basketball coach is using his life experience to inspire student athletes to become leaders on and off the court—he plans to share practical lessons from his own challenges to build teamwork and confidence.  The Blade
  • The Blade released high school volleyball stat leaders for the week of Sept. 28 using data from MaxPreps—providing key numbers like kills per set for local teams.  The Blade
