COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials say the new LC4 facility will have larger kennels and outdoor play areas to care for dogs waiting for adoption. The upgraded center will serve as a temporary home until each dog finds a furever family.  WTVG
  • Today, Toledo’s only registered Latino credit union held a quinceañera—celebrating its cultural traditions as it honored local members. The event highlighted the union's role in the community.  WTVG
  • Butterflies 15, a Toledo organization helping survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, celebrates 10 years of service today—its support for local women has grown and will continue to help those in need.  WTOL
  • Toledo residents can join Pour for a Purpose on October 4th from 6pm to midnight at The Switchboard in downtown Toledo — the fundraiser will donate 10% of proceeds to WGTE Public Media and feature live music, art, food, and prizes.  Toledo City Paper
  • West Toledoan Justin Scott Slater saved a woman from drowning in the Maumee River during a July 31 early morning fishing session and swam 195 feet to reach her before emergency crews arrived. He was honored by Toledo City Council with a standing ovation and the Carnegie Medal—he said he acted out of his heart.  Toledo Free Press
  • Ohio’s only registered Latino credit union, Nueva Esperanza Community Credit Union, celebrated 15 years in business during Hispanic Heritage Month in Toledo’s Old South End as Sue Cuevas (who commutes from Archbold daily) led efforts to help Latino and immigrant members build credit (overcoming early doubts from corporate banking).  WTVG
  • Toledo Lucas County Public Library will launch its 'Better Toledo' series next week—an event that invites residents to learn about plans for improving the city.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mwork said customers sign an authorization form before their vehicle is serviced and can choose which shop to use. The company explained it uses public records to call accident victims and will improve staff explanations—helping reduce confusion.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sunday, October 5 from 1 to 4 p.m., five historic homes in Toledo’s Westmoreland Neighborhood open for a self-guided tour that shows original woodwork, stained glass, and period tile detailing. Organized by the Westmoreland Neighborhood Association & ticket sales support local upkeep, the event offers a chance to experience Toledo heritage firsthand.  Toledo City Paper
  • Local entrepreneur Jessica Delgado is transforming the old Jed’s building into The Pale Horse — Toledo’s first horror-themed bar that will showcase gothic decor, themed cocktails, and eerie bites. She says the bar will open in the next couple of months to offer locals an immersive experience that draws them into a world of folklore and cinematic horror.  Toledo City Paper

  • Lucas County held a ribbon cutting for its new Canine Care and Control building after completing the $31.9 million project under budget — it will open to the public on Oct.4.  WTOL

  • Live from the Nickel is a sports podcast that began with Toledo locals chatting at home and now records live at local bars and restaurants—bringing friendly Toledo pride to every interview.
