COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Task Force 20 hosted a veteran awards banquet on September 22—veterans were honored for their service and dedication.  WTVG
  • The Toledo Lucas County Public Library will hold community meetings in October at the Holland Branch to gather feedback on its planned expansion and renovation—sessions are scheduled for Oct. 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Oct. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Oct. 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  WTVG

  • Erie Orchards reports its apples are thriving despite drought conditions that have left Toledo 1.5 inches below average rainfall — farm manager Mike Mitchell said the warm weather has shifted the harvest timeline. The orchard updates visitors through word of mouth and its website as fall festivities continue.  WTOL

  • Debra Sue, executive director of the Historic Vistula Community Awareness Connection, said the Vistula Music Jazz Show will honor one of Toledo’s oldest neighborhoods on Sunday—highlighting its local heritage.  WTOL

  • The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo is hosting an International Festival that brings together thousands for a celebration of culture. The event paused last year to honor those suffering in Gaza and returns this year with renewed energy.  WTOL

  • The city of Toledo signed a partnership contract today for a new water reservoir project+ it is designed to protect the city’s water supply for the future.  WTOL
  • Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose recently directed county boards to remove thousands of inactive registrations of deceased voters—an effort that uses new federal data to improve the accuracy of the voter rolls.   • Ed Beczynski is running for Toledo City Council as an at-large candidate who aims to lower crime, expand housing, and support business ahead of the Nov. 4 election— his campaign seeks to bring change to the Glass City.  WTOL
  • Today, 50 Ohioans signed up to become troopers as the Ohio State Highway Patrol hosted a signing day for recruits starting academy Tuesday — the event aims to address national recruiting shortfalls among first responders.  WTVG
