- ➤ A group gathered in Toledo to honor Charlie Kirk and practice free speech and assembly rights while calling for an end to political violence. The rally was linked to a national memorial in Arizona and brought local community members together & stressed the importance of peaceful expression. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Barry Jackisch, a UToledo professor, developed two online teacher education courses on the Holocaust with a grant from the Ohio Holocaust and Genocide Memorial and Educational Commission to help middle and high school teachers learn about the events of World War II and its lessons. The courses use interactive lessons, video lectures recorded at historic sites (such as Buchenwald) and local survivor stories from Toledo to offer three continuing education unit credits. - ➤ Ohio Department of Children and Youth Director Kara Wente announced a new partnership with the Department of Defense to launch the Military Child Care In Your Neighborhood—PLUS program, which began August 25th to offer fee assistance and high-quality child care to eligible military and DoD civilian families. The program uses the state’s Step Up To Quality system to ensure safe care for over 33,000 children. Toledo Legal News

- ➤ The City of Toledo and the Prosecutor’s Office will hold a summit called Breaking the Cycle of Violence on Oct. 1 to talk about domestic violence, dating abuse, and human trafficking. Chief Prosecutor Rebecca Facey said experts and local youth will join the summit—sharing red flags and data to help stop repeated harm. Toledo Free Press
- ➤ The Supreme Court of Ohio upheld a tax board decision that set the taxable value of the Ohio part of the Rover Pipeline at nearly $3.67 billion for the 2019 tax year. Rover argued that delays from heavy rain and regulatory actions should lower this value—but the board found Brent Eyre's appraisal most convincing. Toledo Legal News
- ➤ Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health have announced the new children’s eyesight program OhioSEE for kindergarten through 3rd grade students in high-need counties to improve access to eye exams. The program will use mobile vision vans and in-school clinics to serve up to 14,000 children each year and is set to begin early next year — a move aimed at closing the gap in current vision care. - ➤ Starting Oct. 1, UToledo will offer free flu shots to on-campus students, staff, and healthcare workers who must be vaccinated or get an exemption. Vaccines will be available at the Main Campus health center from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays and at Health Science Campus with pop-up clinics starting Oct. 8—participants must show proof of vaccination or submit an exemption by Dec. 1.
