COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers will launch a donation drive on Monday to support Libbey Glass workers on strike in Toledo. The drive will provide essential supplies (donations and funds) to help the affected workers amidst the ongoing labor dispute.  WTOL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Glass City Crossfit is vacating its Alexis Rd gym by mid-October because the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is expanding the Washington Branch next door. The business will relocate to the former St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store at 2942 W. Sylvania Ave.—pending a certificate of occupancy.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Issue Box Theater production, She Kills Monsters, premieres today at the University of Toledo’s Ritter Planetarium at 7:30 p.m. with additional shows on Sept 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept 21 at 2:30 p.m.—the drama comedy blends a Dungeons and Dragons adventure with a touching coming-of-age story of grief and love—directed by Riley Runnells in her debut effort.  Toledo Free Press
  • Starlite Theater Group will screen Moonstruck on September 23 and feature a live pre-show performance by Toledo Opera—singers Danielle Casos, Brady Del Vecchio and Rich Hale and pianist Yura Jang. Tickets include a drink and appetizers.  Toledo City Paper

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Port of Toledo will dredge the Maumee River and Lake Erie through December to keep a 30-foot deep channel for freighters—ensuring safe access for hundreds of cargo ships, and the work supports over 8,000 jobs and $1 billion in economic impact—while the clean dredged material is planned for use in local projects like Glass City Metropark.  WTVG

  • Shellie McKnight, a member of the Anthony Wayne Board of Education, announced she will resign from the board policy committee immediately and step down as a board member on Dec. 31st after her laughing-emoji reaction on Facebook to a post about Charlie Kirk's killing sparked strong calls for her resignation.  WTVG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Toledo completed the Delaware/Horseshoe and Clarke Islands restoration on Sept 15 with a ribbon cutting at Walbridge Park, marking the largest habitat project in Maumee River history. The project improved water quality by filtering sediments and providing homes for birds and fish, and the team will continue dredging and invasive species control over the next year + planting native species.  Toledo Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said the collapsed sewer on Arlington Avenue will be fixed with a full replacement, increasing the cost to about $16 million and scheduling repairs for finish in June 2026. Road closures will start on Sept. 22—residents should expect detours as the work continues.  WTVG
  • Some Toledo residents still live in the condemned Riverside Mobile Homes, which the city declared a public nuisance four months ago & face a deadline to leave. City officials warned that further actions will be taken if residents do not comply.  WTOL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • 11 Investigates found that out-of-town landlords in Toledo are evicting tenants more often as rent costs rise—straining local housing and stressing renters.  WTOL
  • Toledo resident Tina King said the ugly property next door has hurt her home for years, and she now wants it cleaned up or demolished. The city posted unfit orders on March 25 and said the building will be torn down when funding is available—while a family member has shown interest in repairing it.  WTVG
