- ➤ Susie’s Coats for Kids and Hannah’s Socks will host their 19th annual distribution day on Sept. 20 at Jones Leadership Academy on Nebraska Ave from 9 a.m. to noon in Toledo. Families attending will receive free coats, hats, gloves, socks, undergarments, pajamas, goody bags, dental and hygiene products, and shoes—while the first 300 arrivals get tickets from Toledo Metroparks for The Ribbon Ice Rink, Imagination Station, and Toledo Zoo. - ➤ Libbey Glass workers’ strike has entered its fourth week (the longest labor dispute since 1974) as the protest continues, with no resolution reached yet. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UToledo held a naturalization ceremony at the Law Center on Sept. 12 where 38 people became U.S. citizens, including Dr. Patrick Lawrence—professor and chair of the Department of Geography and Planning—and his wife Nancy, who moved from Waterloo years ago. - ➤ The University of Toledo College of Engineering will host its Fall 2025 Engineering Career Expo on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon in Savage Arena, where over 175 companies plus around 700 students and alumni will network for co-ops and full-time job opportunities. - ➤ Perrysburg Schools earned a 5-star rating on Ohio Report Cards today as one of only 47 districts to exceed state standards in areas like achievement and progress — Superintendent Kadee Anstadt praised the teamwork of teachers, staff, parents and students and said the district will work hard to maintain the honor. - ➤ The University of Toledo is inviting Rocket partners to join its annual Rocket Romance Celebration on Sept. 25 in Centennial Mall on Main Campus, where guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, live music + an optional vow renewal ceremony. Tickets cost $10 and RSVPs are due by Sept. 24, and the event is part of Homecoming festivities ahead of the Rockets' game against Akron on Sept. 27 in the Glass Bowl. The University of Toledo
- ➤ During the open house, visitors at Toledo Public Schools Aerospace and Aviation School saw how students earn FAA certifications, explore aviation career paths and build technical skills for future work—demonstrating hands-on training in the field. WTOL
- ➤ Toledo Public Schools dropped its rating from 2.5 to 2 stars while nearly 80% of students graduated and staff push to boost attendance. District leaders said the report card does not show all progress — including more students earning college credit and career credentials — as they work to help every learner succeed. WTVG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today the city completed the largest restoration project on the Maumee River by restoring Delaware—Horseshoe—and Clark islands in south Toledo; the work improves the river environment for local residents. WTOL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Monroe County launched its SAFE program on Monday — a joint effort by the Sheriff’s Office, the local school district and mental health professionals — to alert first responders about conditions like PTSD, Alzheimer’s, autism and diabetes during emergencies. Residents can register a loved one on the county website and receive complimentary decals to help responders prepare. WTVG
- ➤ The Ohio Housing Finance Agency Board approved financing for 10 housing developments to create or preserve affordable housing statewide — including a project at Palmer Gardens Apartments in Toledo that will rehabilitate 75 units for families. The funding supports assisted living and rental projects for older Ohioans and others in counties such as Delaware, Franklin, Medina, Lorain, and beyond. Toledo Legal News
