COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today at 11am, the Millbury Street Fair starts at Millbury Firehall with local vendors and family fun. Later in the month, Toledo Zoo hosts PNC ZOOtoDO on September 19 and Sip Sip Hooray Harvest Wine Fest on September 26, while Honey Fest on September 20 and Toledo Fringe Fest on September 27 at Collingwood Arts Center offer a range of food, music and art—these events promise diverse entertainment for our community.  Toledo City Paper
  • City crews fixed a sinkhole on Pinewood Ave that once threatened a local grandmother’s home—repair work that lasted many months—and now residents have a safer road and sidewalks.  WTVG
  • Toledo celebrated a new accessible playground at Schneider Park on Friday—local officials said the $450,000 project was funded by District 2 Councilman Adam Martinez’s District Improvement Program and the American Rescue Plan, and it adds one of four inclusive play areas in the city.  WTVG
  • Thirty-eight people became U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony at the University of Toledo College of Law on Friday—marking an important milestone for the new citizens.  WTOL
  • Toledo Fire and Rescue is hosting an annual mass tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Historic Church of St. Patrick — a tradition begun to thank firefighters for heroic responses — and will honor both active and retired firefighters.  WTVG
  • Minuteman Press, a veteran-owned business, is supporting the 12th Annual H.O.O.V.E.S. Golf Scramble set for Monday, Sept. 22 at Sylvania Country Club to raise funds for equine-assisted healing programs that help veterans and their families. BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Toledo City plan commission approved a plan for the Westgate shopping center at Central and Secor where property owners plan to build four buildings for big box retail and another building for two stores and three restaurants—the plan must now go to the Toledo City Council for a vote.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Historical Construction Equipment Association’s National Construction Equipment Museum in Bowling Green displays machines that range from late 1800s horse-drawn items to modern equipment and is run by local volunteers. The museum will host its International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition Sept. 18—20 to draw thousands of visitors from around the world.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School officials are looking into ways to boost security after shootings and threats at colleges and high schools raised safety concerns nationwide — local leaders will review options to better protect students.  WTVG
  • WTOL 11 interviewed a clinical counselor who advised parents on how to talk to their children about violent online content after video footage of Charlie Kirk’s shooting death circulated online. The guidance aims to help families manage exposure to graphic content and foster safer digital habits.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Judge Jack Puffenberger was chosen for the Treat Award by the National College of Probate Judges—he is only the third judge from Ohio to earn this high honor that recognizes his exceptional impact on probate law and judicial practices.  WTVG
  • On September 9, 2025, Toledo City Council met and honored Justin Scott Slater for saving a woman and Kenyetta Gable-Jones for retiring after 40 years at General Motors. The council passed a rule classifying kratom as a Schedule I Controlled Substance—dissent was raised on budget changes and a failed vote to repeal a 2000 zoning law.  Toledo Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Owens Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic will host a Kids Access to Dental Care Day on October 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Healthcare Education Center Room 100 to offer free dental services such as cleanings, x-rays, sealants and fluoride treatments; limited spots mean families must make an appointment by calling 567—661—7294.  WTVG
  • The Out of the Darkness Walk will take place on Oct. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention—attendees can visit a Community Resource Fair and a memory tent to honor loved ones.  WTVG
