  • D1 Training will open an athletic center on November 17 at 4400 Heatherdowns Blvd.—Toledo residents Tyson and Sara Stoll will offer programs for kids and adults with free fitness checks to set up personal plans. Memberships can be signed up online before the opening.  Toledo Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Toledo Wine Share will open its speakeasy tours and tastings on September 13th at 23 N. Huron, offering guided visits through its renovated fermentation and lounge areas—showcasing nearly a dozen in-house wines made mainly from Washington grapes. Owners Angel and Kathryn Tucker have transformed the old Kombucha warehouse into downtown's first speakeasy since Prohibition.  Toledo City Paper

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo City Council will recognize Justin Slater on Tuesday for his rescue of a woman who jumped from the MLK Bridge into the Maumee River in July 2024. He is honored with the Carnegie Medal for Heroism — the highest civilian award for bravery in the U.S. and Canada.  WTVG

  • Today, brave volunteers scaled a 16-story building in Toledo to raise funds for the Victory Center's cancer research—an event designed to boost local support for those fighting the disease.  WTOL

  • Toledo’s football coach Jason Candle became the program’s all-time leader with his 74th win when the Rockets beat Western Kentucky 45-21 Saturday night at the Glass Bowl — he broke a tie with former coach Gary Pinkel and now looks ahead to conference play.  WTOL
