ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday morning on the Ohio Turnpike two fatal crashes — including one in a traffic backup — claimed three lives and led to a three-hour closure of that section. WTVG
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Toledo-based Ground Penetrating Radar Systems started about 25 years ago when founder Matt Aston used radar to help workers find underground lines. It now earns $220 million a year, employs 900 people in 60 cities, and will soon add a new tool called Sitemap—a data service designed to improve worksite safety. Toledo Free Press

- ➤ More than 672 students from Fallen Timbers Middle School attended a house reveal party at Anthony Wayne High School on August 22 where they were grouped into houses called Fettari, Tigalo, Modero and Setega to build teamwork—fostering connections between fifth and sixth graders. Teachers and staff joined in with music and games as the school celebrated its new house system. Toledo Free Press

- ➤ Roundabout construction will begin this week in western Lucas County + local crews are set to work on the project that aims to ease traffic. WTVG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mercy Health's mobile mammography van will visit 17 stops in northwest Ohio and one in southeast Michigan this September to offer 3D mammogram screenings for patients age 40 and older by appointment only. Appointments include stops at Toledo's Pointe Shoreland Family Medicine on Sept. 3 and Perfecting Church on Sept. 6 — sites where certified radiologists double-check results using a computer-aided detection system to help catch cancer early. - ➤ UToledo Health has started using automated blood pressure machines that work without a doctor in the room to help patients stay calm and get accurate readings. A study showed recheck rates rose from 59% to 96% and more patients had controlled blood pressure, so the center will expand the method to all family and internal medicine visits — a step that may lead to better care. - ➤ Toledo Rocket Football announced a new set of gameday promotions for the 2025 season that include VIP access to the Rocket Walk, custom video board messages, and sideline photos with mascots + returning fan favorites like The Touchdown Tank and live music in the Lot 10 Beer Garden.
