- ➤ A fire broke out at a market on Fulton on Bancroft when the building owner shared surveillance video of the flames starting—local emergency crews responded promptly. WTVG
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The federal government will get 433 million shares of Intel (a 9.9% stake) in exchange for $8.9 billion allocated under the CHIPS Act, which may fund two Ohio chip plants now delayed to 2030 or 2031. Industry leaders said the funds may bring stability to planning even as worker numbers on site are expected to drop. Spectrum News 1
- ➤ Workers at Libbey Glass have been on strike for five days outside the north Toledo plant after they rejected a contract offer and began picketing in six-hour shifts for fair wages and lower healthcare costs. State officials support the union and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur will join the picket line Friday at 1:30 p.m.—negotiations have not resumed. WTOL

- ➤ Toledo police found 13 children living in a filthy home on Raymer Street on August 10—body camera video captured the deplorable conditions with bugs and trash—and removed the children while arresting an adult with an outstanding warrant for endangering children. WTVG
- ➤ Andrew Campbell, a former University of Toledo fellow aged 34, was sentenced Tuesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to a sentence of 4 to 6 years for setting a doctor's home on fire in Sylvania Township in December — he pleaded no contest to three counts of aggravated arson while three additional counts were dismissed and he must register as a lifetime arson offender while forfeiting his interest in a Toyota RAV4. - ➤ The DEA intensified its crackdown on the Sinaloa Cartel, a violent drug group trafficking fentanyl into Ohio + Michigan. WTVG
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ City officials working with Toledo-Lucas County Public Library announced that hand-drawn plat maps from the 1880s were found in the Toledo Police Safety Building attic and a $2,480 grant along with funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission will help preserve about 660 pages on 10 cubic feet of linen. The maps will be disbound, scanned and digitally archived— the preservation project will run through Dec. 31. WTOL
