- ➤ Four teens were injured in a crash on State Route 49 and US 20 in Northwest Township when 19-year-old Trevor Boss’s Subaru failed to yield at a stop sign and was hit by a semi driven by 43-year-old Gary Mays—resulting in two teens suffering serious injuries and prompting police and emergency crews to respond. - ➤ Workers at Libbey Glass in Toledo went on strike Friday night after contract talks failed due to inadequate pay and rising health insurance costs — union members from IAM and USW were dismissed early to protest mandatory overtime and loss of union rights. WTOL

- ➤ Jim Havens, 87, is actively sculpting new artworks—after a three-decade career as an iron worker with Local 55 in Toledo, he remains nationally recognized for his artistic work. WTOL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Lucas County Commissioners meeting on Aug. 19, officials honored Tyreese Blue II—an incoming University of Toledo freshman named Boys and Girls Club of Ohio Youth of the Year—and retired legal secretary Madeline Vallejo-Welch after 26 years of service. Commissioners also announced new hires and praised Blue's community work along with Vallejo-Welch’s dedication as they moved on to other agenda items. Toledo Free Press
- ➤ Last Friday, the Lucas County Investment Advisory Committee met in Toledo and approved a motion advising Treasurer Lindsay Webb against further investing in Israeli bonds — a move that Commissioner Pete Gerken and protesters contested. Webb said state law prevents a quick divestment and the committee will review the policy in six weeks — a decision that left the board divided. Toledo Free Press
