CRIME NEWS
- ➤ When a car is stolen in Toledo, police say the recovery process (from towing to repairs) can be long, stressful, and expensive for vehicle owners. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Owens Community College will launch its first nursing degree program in summer 2026 so certified nurses can study for a bachelor’s degree—helping them improve their skills. WTOL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Toledo will use a collaborative model at the Bay View Water Reclamation Plant that will allow work and equipment orders to begin before the full design is finished—this change is expected to streamline improvement projects at the plant. WTOL
- ➤ The City of Toledo detailed plans to invest about $18 million in upgrades at the Bay View Water Reclamation Plant and Reynolds Road Pump Station. The city is using a collaborative process with contractors plus designers to begin some work before the full design is complete and work may start before the end of the year. WTVG
- ➤ The board of trustees at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will vote on August 28 on a plan to close the Toledo Heights Library, which opened in 1935, and merge it with the Heatherdowns branch to create a super branch due to state funding cuts. If approved, Toledo Heights will close in January 2026—raising concerns among longtime users—while Heatherdowns continues serving the community. WTVG
- ➤ State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan has proposed a bill that would require amusement parks like Cedar Point and Kings Island to update ride status on-site and online within five minutes of any change—helping families decide how to enjoy their park day. The bill is expected to be assigned to a committee in coming weeks and will take effect one year after enactment with enforcement by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and penalties for noncompliance.
