COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Aug. 11, the Godbee family's home on the 1700 block of Glastonberry Road in Washington Township burned completely with all belongings lost, and neighbors plus local businesses donated school supplies and essential items — the family now stays at a hotel courtesy of the American Red Cross while they await their insurance claim and plan to rebuild.  WTVG

  • A Toledo judge ordered a North Toledo bar to close for one year after four people were shot on July 6—two of them died in the incident.  The Blade

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owens Community College announced that it will offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree for the first time in 60 years—this new program will launch later this academic year to meet the growing need for qualified nurses locally.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rocky Ridge Development LLC filed an appeal with the Board of Zoning Appeals after the city issued a stop-work order last month at its mining operation on Angola Road (citing zoning violations). City council had already rejected the company’s proposals for zoning changes (official report).  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Toledo’s annual Black Men’s Wellness Day will be held on Aug. 16 at Scott High School on Collingwood Blvd from 7 a.m. to noon—offering free health screenings, a special seniors area, interactive activities for kids and a 5K walk and run starting at 9:30 a.m. The African American Male Wellness Agency is hosting the event to help Toledo residents access vital health resources and celebrate community unity.  WTVG
