COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Maggie Sutton was honored on Wednesday by the Perrysburg Township Fire Department—along with the American Heart Association—for performing CPR that helped save her neighbor, Robert Klaus, during a cardiac arrest in June. She said she quickly responded when Donna Burke called for help while she was in her garden.  WTVG
  • The Huntington Foundation donated $60,000 Thursday to the Safety Net Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter in Toledo to help teens who are homeless or at risk by funding supplies, staff, and programs such as mental health support—over 180 youths were admitted last year. The funds will continue the shelter’s work in providing 24/7 crisis support and safe placement assistance.  WTVG
  • Perrysburg Township fire officials and the American Heart Association honored Maggie Sutton on August 6 for saving a neighbor by performing CPR. Organizers report that while there is no evidence of widespread issues, Ohio voting machines remain vulnerable to mischief— a warning that may prompt further checks.  WTVG
  • Community leaders and elected officials went out on a boat Wednesday to look at Lake Erie and talk about harmful algal blooms and extra phosphorus, + marking 11 years since the Toledo Water crisis as the Lake Erie Water Keepers seek solutions.  WTVG

CRIME NEWS

  • Toledo police arrested two 13-year-olds today for vandalism after they allegedly dropped bricks from an overpass onto vehicles on I-475 near Sherbrooke Road and Douglas Road—one driver suffered minor lacerations and damage was reported.  WTOL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Andre Farms—operated by Nate and Paul Andre for nearly 30 years—food and green waste from local grocers and Toledo drop‐off bins is turned into compost that cuts down what goes to landfills. The process heats the waste to kill weeds and pathogens—resulting in nutrient-rich fertilizer that improves soil and helps keep Lake Erie cleaner.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government officials and community organizers met to discuss plans to protect Lake Erie and review security concerns—organizers noted there is no evidence of widespread voting machine problems in Ohio but warned that the machines may be vulnerable to mischief.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is issuing a public health notice today—warning residents about the serious health risks of kratom and the misleading tactics used to sell illegal forms; only the natural dry leaf or powder is allowed under Ohio law, and officials urge those who feel unwell to seek help immediately.  WTOL
