CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Rossford police chief Glenn Goss Sr. pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges for using a police database to check his wife’s vehicle and his father’s driving status — he claimed he had permission and did not know about another public database. WTVG
- ➤ Alfonzo Carpenter Jr. was shot and killed while walking in West Toledo nearly three years ago — his unsolved homicide leaves his mother worried his death will remain unanswered. WTVG
- ➤ 61-year-old Ava Belmon of Toledo was arrested on Aug. 4 for allegedly punching an officer in the face multiple times while police responded to a UTMC incident (she was released on bond and must return to court on Aug. 12). WTVG
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Trash pickup in Toledo and Maumee was suspended when Republic Teamsters drivers joined a strike against Republic Services — the drivers are standing with other striking locals in support of the labor action. WTVG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ University of Toledo researchers found that microcystin from harmful algae can stay in Maumee Bay State Park’s wet sand for up to three weeks — sometimes rising above EPA limits — so beachgoers are advised to rinse off after contact. Toledo Free Press
- ➤ Records show that for decades untreated sewage was pumped into the river — the mayor, city council and administrators denied any knowledge of the oversight breakdown. WTOL

- ➤ Lucas County commissioners honored local band Oliver Hazard by proclaiming Aug. 16 as Oliver Hazard Day—marking the day when the band's musical festival will take place in Waterville. WTOL
- ➤ Toledo Lucas County Public Library leaders chose EatWell Cafe to replace SAME Cafe at the Main Library downtown. EatWell, a local non-profit that uses a participation-based system — where customers pay what they can or volunteer in exchange for a meal — will start operating the service this fall. WTVG
