  • Glass City Metropark’s Mini Maumee water play area suffered extensive flooding damage to its equipment last week and will be closed for the rest of the season for repairs — it is expected to reopen next spring.  WTVG
  • Tomorrow, Soul City Boxing Gym will host a free Family Fun Day and Back-to-School Giveaway at its facility on Junction Avenue, featuring food, games, free haircuts, and 300 backpacks stocked with hygiene products — co-founder RoShawn Jones and former Olympian Charles Conwell will attend to support over 300 Toledo families as they prepare for school.  WTOL
  • Toledo Jeep Fest has begun today as local fans gather to celebrate a day of community and automotive fun—organizers expect to feature Jeep displays and vendor booths throughout the event.  WTVG

CRIME NEWS

  • Toledo police are asking anyone with information on a suspect who attacked a person with a box cutter on July 21 in the 3700 block of S. Detroit Avenue to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111 — you may be eligible for up to $5,000 in reward.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeep Fest (one of Toledo's biggest annual traditions) started on Friday when the Crawler Block Party on Adams Street drew a lively crowd. Organizers said the energy from the opening event would boost the celebrations throughout the festival.  WTOL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ohio began its expanded sales tax holiday on Aug. 1 and it runs until Aug. 14, offering tax-free purchases on items under $500 and dine-in meals without tax—alcohol still carries tax. Local Toledo businesses are adding extra discounts to help customers save during the event.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates said in a letter to Sheriff Michael Navarre that the board's decision to cancel the Flock Safety camera contract is void because the board had already approved it & Navarre had signed it, so the cancellation on July 22 does not reverse the executed contract.  WTVG
  • Experts and political leaders in Toledo are urging residents to stay alert for human trafficking signs after World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30. Celia Williamson of the Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute at the University of Toledo said suspicious bank activity—along with other red flags—should lead people to report concerns to law enforcement.  WTOL

  • Foreign and out-of-state investors continue buying Toledo homes through LLCs, causing local owners to worry about neglected properties and rising rents — investors pay cash and expedite purchases that local buyers cannot match. Local officials and experts call for state action to protect neighborhoods — residents fear that absentee landlords and aggressive rent hikes will worsen housing issues.  WTOL
