COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Library leaders at Toledo Lucas-County Library reviewed proposals from OurVision Catering, Cherry Street Mission, and EatWell Café to run the main library café (SAME Café closed in April for financial reasons). They will announce the chosen group in early August and expect the new operator to uphold a community-based mission that supports local needs.  WTVG

  • The Toledo Police Department said a man was hospitalized after his mini bike ran a red light—and crashed into a vehicle.  WTVG

  • Meijer is moving forward with plans for a new supercenter on the 800 block of South Pray Boulevard — across from Kroger. The mayor said he is reviewing the project and will share his reaction soon.  WTOL

CRIME NEWS

  • Paris James and Jerry Scott were sentenced yesterday to life in prison without parole for killing Tameisha Price and her unborn baby, Malaysia Leani— they say they are innocent and plan to appeal.  WTVG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy analysis shows that gas prices in Toledo increased by 17.5 cents from last week to an average of $3 per gallon recorded Monday — Sunday’s prices ranged from $2.36 to $3.29. The report noted that the average price was 5.3 cents higher than a month ago, 60 cents lower than a year ago, and remains below the national average of $3.10.  WTOL

  • On Friday, hundreds visited UToledo’s main campus during the annual Campus Crawl to explore facilities and meet with admissions and academic representatives—joining activities like tie-dye workshops and talks with campus staff.   • Local health officials and advocates say the proposed federal budget may cut $56 million in naloxone funding—this change could limit access to the life-saving drug outside Toledo. Toledo stays protected by a state program that provides free naloxone to first responders.  Toledo Free Press
