COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Toledo Lucas County Public Library will celebrate the Birmingham Branch's 100th anniversary tomorrow, July 26th, at 203 Paine Ave in east Toledo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the free event will feature fun activities, games, and Tony Packo's hot dogs.  WTOL
  • Lucas County Children Services hosted community conversations when Hope Bland and Andrea Carmona explained the new program on WTOL 11—local families will soon have a forum to voice concerns about child services. The initiative is expected to guide improved support and communication.  WTOL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday afternoon, a crash on Douglas Road killed one person and injured two others when an SUV struck a motorcycle—47-year-old Scott Gaynor was pronounced dead at Toledo Hospital while the SUV driver and a 5-year-old passenger were treated.  WTVG

CRIME NEWS

  • The Ohio Casino Control Commission announced Thursday it confiscated 104 illegal gaming machines from Shamrocks on Navarre Ave. in Oregon and West Alexis Rd. in Toledo along with $50,000 and documents (the investigation continues).  WTVG
  • Dr. Andrew Campbell pleaded no contest to three counts of aggravated arson after setting another doctor’s home on fire on Carrietown Lane in Sylvania Township + a firefighter was injured during the incident which left the victim’s home unlivable.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maumee city administrator Patrick Burtch will retire on Aug. 16 after more than five years marked by both bold initiatives and strong public criticism — supporters highlight his work on addressing sewage issues while critics note rising water bills and traffic changes. The city has not yet named his replacement or confirmed the timeline for the transition.  WTOL
  • Officials held a flag-raising ceremony in Toledo to honor the historic regiment of Buffalo Soldiers — state Sen. Paula Hicks-Hudson said their brave deeds have shaped northwest Ohio for decades.  WTOL
  • Corrections officers at Lucas County jail manage a mental health wing that holds 24 high-risk inmates as they face daily crises and limited resources. They repurposed several units due to a canceled jail project and work with empathy—using food and conversation to de-escalate tense situations.  WTOL
