- ➤ Lucas County Children Services will host a community conversation on Safe Children, Safe Families at the Lagrange Branch Library on July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.—community partners including Brothers and Sisters United, The Hill Youth Program, and Building Futures Behavioral Health will present options to help prevent child abuse and neglect. - ➤ The 34th annual Pollyball tournament will take place on August 16 at International Park on 2 Main St. with check-in at 8 a.m. and the contest starting at 9 a.m. The event honors Polly Hylant-Tracy’s legacy and raises funds for a breast cancer early detection program — offering free parking, kids activities and food trucks while banning outside alcohol. - ➤ The Salvation Army’s Takin’ it to the Streets fundraiser event will take place on Sept. 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in front of Packo’s at the Park at 7 S. Superior St.—tickets cost $100 each or $750 for a table of 8 and must be purchased by Aug. 25 to support the local food pantry in Lucas County. WTVG

- ➤ Reginald Mcclellan, whose house on Norwood Avenue has tree branches from a city-owned lot hanging over his roof, asked the city to trim the trees after a branch damaged a nearby shed. The city will have Forestry inspect the trees soon—following his repeated calls. WTVG

- ➤ UToledo researchers used donated lung cells to test how tiny plastic particles affect breathing and found that the particles confuse lung cells and trigger a mixed immune response—raising concerns about potential health risks when these plastics carry other toxins. The University of Toledo
