- ➤ A national nonprofit is building the first Isaiah 117 House in Lucas County to give foster children a safe place after a Holy Graffiti event on Wednesday (July 16th) where community members wrote scriptures on the house's studs; the nearly $700,000 home in Oregon (funded by church and community donations) will open this winter and be run by trained volunteers. - ➤ Justice for Sierah will host a Sierah Strong for the Community event on July 19 at 10 a.m. at Holland Library at 1032 S. McCord Road; the free event marks the anniversary of Sierah Joughin's disappearance—organizers will offer age-appropriate safety training and laminated KidPrint IDs for children ages 6 through 18. - ➤ Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority confirmed that the bus driver, stabbed in the face during an onboard attack on July 1 near Parkwood and Bancroft, is no longer employed—surveillance video showed a passenger pull out a knife—and Aaron Wiggins was arrested on assault charges and placed on electronic monitoring. - ➤ Toledo Police and city leaders will hold a briefing at 10 a.m. today to review the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Terrell Carter Jr. on Earl Street near Forsythe on July 14, where he allegedly fired at officers and the meeting will show graphic video footage + officers involved are on administrative leave. - ➤ Several local groups hosted school supply drives to help students and teachers get ready for the new school year—Buckeye Broadband’s drive filled over 800 backpacks with donations accepted until July 15 while a drive-thru was held on July 16. Other efforts by Lucas County Children Services with its Ready, Set, School! campaign, Grace Church Toledo, and the University of Toledo provided extra supplies to support back-to-school needs—ensuring many receive the help they need. - ➤ Snowcone, a four-month-old Doberman puppy at Toledo Humane Society rescued from a dog abuse case in Henry County, needs a heart procedure after doctors diagnosed her with a defect (Pulmonic stenosis) that will likely limit her life without treatment. The shelter has raised over $5,300 toward the estimated $8,000 cost and will perform a balloon valvuloplasty on July 30, hoping to place her for adoption about four weeks later. WTVG
