  • Jason White with Buckeye Real Estate, one of the builders of the Toledo St. Jude Dream Home, spoke about how the project is changing lives by supporting a valuable cause—he urged community members to get involved and help those in need.  WTOL
  • Starting Saturday, July 12, visitors can tour the custom-built St. Jude Dream Home (a four-bedroom, 2,800-square-foot home) at 995 Stoneleigh Road in Perrysburg’s Coventry Pointe and reserve tickets to win the home, a $10,000 Visa gift card, and other prizes while supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. CRIME NEWS

  • Domestic violence advocates in Toledo warn that strained local resources are impacting the community amid a surge in deadly cases that cost Lucas County $9 million annually, and they urge officials to act before more harm occurs.  WTOL
  • A former Toledo postal worker, Marcus Gaines 34, was convicted for trafficking drugs through mail after investigators found he transported packages containing narcotics along his delivery route—he is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 30 for sentencing.  WTVG

  • Terra State Community College is hosting a Manufacturing Day event to showcase its updated manufacturing curriculum — the new space is designed to support hands-on learning for students.  WTOL
  • The University of Toledo’s John B. and Lillian E. College of Business and Innovation extended its AACSB accreditation—an honor earned by only 6% of business schools—to its business and accounting programs. The move showed the college’s strong teaching and high job placement, with over 90% of graduates finding jobs after school—confirming its elite status.  The University of Toledo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lucas Camuso-Stall of Toledo Lucas County Public Library said the new state budget will change the funding model in 2026 and 2027, which will lose the system around $1.6 million and add strain to statewide services — while voters approved a $153 million bond for capital projects including a new branch. He noted Gov. DeWine’s veto of a proposed book ban as a win for intellectual freedom amid growing library needs.  Toledo Free Press
  • City officials will present a contract plan for Toledo firefighters at city council next Tuesday—following a fact-finding report that recommended wage parity with police officers. The proposal will cost the city about $6.8 million through the end of 2027 as it works to balance public safety and a structural deficit.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • A bat in Lucas County tested positive for rabies, and the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department advised residents not to handle wild animals—urging them to vaccinate pets and contact animal control for safe bat removal if needed.  WTVG
  • Officials confirmed the state reported its first West Nile virus case in northwest Ohio, and experts are reviewing the risk in Lucas County as summer continues — residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites.  WTOL
