CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Toledo residents Skye Tristan (21) and Rodney Fisher (29) were arrested in Michigan for an alleged human trafficking scheme that exploited a special needs victim who was taken between Metamora and Toledo for money. WTVG
- ➤ Police arrested Aaron Wiggins, 44, Tuesday afternoon after a witness said that around 10:15 a.m. in the Old West End near Bancroft Street and Parkwood Avenue a man who appeared intoxicated exposed himself and stabbed a TARTA bus driver in the chin with a needle—prompting medical care for the driver and an ongoing investigation. - ➤ The University of Toledo will open a new 78-foot steel footbridge over Douglas Road on Tuesday, July 8 at 10 a.m.—the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place outside Savage Arena. The bridge will better connect the engineering complex to the main campus and give students and visitors a safer way to cross the road. WTVG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the Ohio Division of Wildlife announced that there were 964 active bald eagle nests statewide — with 112 in Ottawa, 61 in Sandusky, and 40 in Erie — based on over 1,800 citizen reports in 87 of 88 counties. An aerial survey showed a 78% success rate for eggs or eaglets in these nests. WTOL
- ➤ UToledo ecologists reported that lake sturgeon released into the Maumee River since 2018 have shown first-year survival rates between 19% and 71%—a promising sign for a project that hopes to reach 1,500 reproducing fish by 2038. The study used acoustic transmitters to track the fish and will guide future reintroduction efforts. The University of Toledo
