- ➤ Former Toledo Police officer Jeremy Berndt, who pled an Alford plea after buying marijuana in uniform and from a marked police vehicle, was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 hours of community service to be completed by August—he was fired after more than 20 years of service. WTVG
- ➤ Anthony Labrador-Sierra, 24, was indicted on four federal charges after he allegedly posed as a high school student and used a false birthdate to enroll at Perrysburg High School before buying a gun with fraudulent citizenship details—federal prosecutors say he used false documents during the purchase. - ➤ Toledo Police said a man and a woman were stabbed in the chest early June 25 on Steel Street off of Front Street and were hospitalized with serious injuries—officers detained a man seen shouting near the scene. WTVG

- ➤ UToledo's Board of Trustees approved a $1.1B operating budget for fiscal year 2026 that prioritizes student success, clinical growth, and new academic programs including a bachelor’s in geospatial science. The board also authorized a $30M capital plan for facility renovations — covering updates to student unions and health centers—and set key leadership appointments such as Michael R. Miller as chair. - ➤ Residents and a mayoral candidate have called for a stop-work order at the mining site on 4004 Angola Road because of concerns over dust, traffic, and the environment — more than 300 signatures have been collected. A company representative said the operation, which aims to provide safe drinking water for 500,000 people, will continue under the city contract until 2025 while the council votes on rezoning on July 15. - ➤ Toledo officials announced that fireworks will launch at dark on July 4 and be seen from Promenade Park, Glass City Metropark and Middlegrounds Metropark. The celebration includes expanded food and drink options and coordinated transportation support—steps planned to ensure safe viewing for all attendees. WTVG
- ➤ Toledo is nearing the halfway point on the decade-long Glass City Riverwalk project that started at Glass City Metropark and will extend from the Veterans Glass City Skyway to the Anthony Wayne Bridge.
