  • Local veteran James Phillips Jr. has spent two years cleaning hundreds of cemeteries' veterans' gravestones in Lucas County to honor those who served. He said he will keep driving until he can no longer do so—preserving a legacy of remembrance.  WTVG
  • The Turner family faces tough times as Stephanie Turner, who was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer while pregnant, balances treatment with caring for her toddler and attending paramedic classes. The Springfield Township fire department will host a Saturday benefit at Homecoming Park — featuring a Firecracker 5K and local celebrities in dinosaur costumes to support the family.  WTVG

  • Today at 1:30 p.m., the Ohio Department of Development will hold an announcement at the Historic Ohio Theatre to unveil new investments through its Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program that support private redevelopment of historic buildings in Toledo—Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, Director Lydia Mihalik, and Mariangela Pfister will attend.  WTVG
  • Toledo firefighters fought a blaze on the 2000 block of South Ave. Tuesday afternoon while managing high temperatures by rotating crews and increasing hydration. They had previously used a substitution system on Prouty Ave. (which added eight extra responders) to keep teams safe.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • UToledo Health, in partnership with Walgreens and KFF, will offer free HIV testing on Friday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Walgreens on Monroe St. in Toledo, where a finger prick will test for HIV and syphilis — with results available in about 20 minutes for HIV and 10 minutes for syphilis.  WTVG
  • In 2023, over 249,000 Ohio seniors did not have enough food as federal changes put nutrition programs at risk. In Toledo, a local group helped seniors join an online program that lowers food costs—providing needed help.  WTVG
