- ➤ Authorities arrested two individuals on charges of identity fraud and forgery after a task force found them with gift cards purchased using stolen credit card data near a local Walmart — officials said the arrest is part of a broader effort to curb organized retail theft impacting local businesses. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The new Lucas County Canine Care and Control facility nears completion at 1301 Monroe St. in Toledo and will replace the current Erie Street shelter with a redesigned space featuring more kennels, play areas and modern amenities. Appointed in March, director Dave Blyth leads the project as crews finish construction in August—plans opening to the public in September—aiming to improve care for local dogs. Toledo Free Press
- ➤ Attorney General Dave Yost announced the Opioid Remediation Grant Program awarded $2.3 million in funding this round to fight inmate addiction across 13 jails in 18 counties—now reaching 26 counties. The program gives up to $200,000 per jail for addiction services such as hiring full-time coordinators or contracting recovery companies, and the application window for 2025 funding runs through Dec. 1.
