CRIME NEWS

  • Marty Eis was arrested on June6 for Cruelty to Companion Animals after a search warrant uncovered 80 dogs in poor health and 6 dead puppies in his Henry County home, where unsanitary conditions prompted additional charges + pending further investigation.  WTVG

  • Toledoans celebrated record attendance at the Old West End Festival as residents gathered on Saturday to enjoy live music, food and family activities—marking a milestone for the neighborhood.  WTVG
  • The Oscar-winning film No Other Land was shown at Maumee Indoor Theater over Memorial Day weekend to a few hundred viewers. Media Decompression Collective (MDC) organized the event, which included a panel where local peace activist Terry Lodge (attorney) answered questions about the film’s look at displacement in the West Bank.  Toledo Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of Broadway Street in south Toledo closed on June 6 and will remain closed through June 13 for final paving and concrete work on the roadway reconstruction project—city officials said the work is on track to be completed efficiently.  WTOL

HEALTH NEWS

  • City leaders reported that sewer overflows raised E. coli levels in Swan Creek and Delaware Creek — tests found 50 and 2,000 times the safe amounts, and residents at Swan Creek Metropark called for warning signs while crews installed a pump and will add a larger one by June 10. Toledo health officials advised park-goers to avoid the creeks and wash their hands.  WTVG
