Good morning, Toledo. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 7th of June.

  • A woman was pulled from the Maumee River (after being submerged for over an hour) when three others lost sight of her (near International Park) while swimming, according to firefighters.  WTOL
  • A woman was hospitalized after an overnight rescue from the Maumee River Friday morning—officials said she was pulled from dangerous currents and is now under close observation.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents near a vacant home on Glenwood Avenue off Castle Boulevard say the overgrown trees and shrubs on the property owned by Jason Kyser have been a constant eyesore. City officials said they have added the lot to a mowing program and it will be demolished later this year or early next.  WTVG
  • The Ohio EPA issued a Notice of Violation to Toledo on June 6 after an Arlington sewer interceptor collapse caused a sanitary overflow that contaminated a local creek — the agency is working with city crews and advising increased water monitoring at Delaware Creek and nearby waterways. City officials must follow the EPA’s recommendations to improve water quality in the affected areas.  WTVG
  • Toledo sinkholes form when old sewer pipes suck in dirt, causing pavement to drop as heavy rain and aging systems play a role. Director Doug Stephens said officials have seen more sinkholes this year and advise calling Engage Toledo for a quick check — the sinkhole on Arlington Avenue is especially unusual.  WTVG

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rising temperatures in June are turning outdoor sports into a challenge as artificial turf can reach over 150°F and risks like dehydration and heat cramps increase—coaches, players, and fans must plan ahead to stay safe.  WTOL
