- ➤ Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity held its annual Blitz Build at Fifth Third Field — with help from more than a dozen organizations and the WTOL 11 team — and built several playhouses that will go to local families. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Seventeen local teens from foster care graduated from high school during a parade organized by Lucas County Children Services — a celebration that marked their transition to adulthood — with 17-year-old Trevan Brown set to attend Owens Community College to study welding. WTVG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Toledo announced that a Clean Toledo recycling event will take place on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Toledo Technology Academy + the event will accept items such as tires, electronics and old appliances, and officials said similar events will continue throughout the summer + WTVG
- ➤ Toledo city officials confirmed that elevated levels of E. coli were found in a local creek after a sewage overflow. Abed Semaan — a longtime city employee — said it was the worst contamination he has seen in nearly 20 years. WTOL
- ➤ City of Toledo officials said that crews tested for E. coli in Swan Creek and Delaware Creek after a sewer interceptor collapsed on Arlington Avenue in early May, causing sewer overflows that led to strong odors and sewage backups in nearby yards. Officials said test results were expected yesterday and that emergency repairs will start after Columbia Gas finishes relocating utilities by June 27 — residents are advised to avoid the water and report any overflows.
