COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday, Nikyle Fitzgerald led volunteers at Historic Woodlawn cemetery as they placed American flags to honor fallen soldiers ahead of Memorial Day.  The Blade
  • American Legion Post 28 is hosting its annual Memorial Day parade and cemetery service at 10 a.m. in Perrysburg on Monday. The event will honor veterans and bring the community together in remembrance.  The Blade
  • A Toledo ceremony honored military members who never made it home as organizers urged families to remember the sacrifices of the fallen (a touching tribute observed by the community).  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • History comes to life at Fort Meigs this weekend as the site hosts the largest War of 1812 reenactment (part of its annual First Siege 1813 event) featuring military camps, musket and cannon demonstrations, and tactical battles.  WTVG
  • The Ohio Department of Development announced last month that Toledo is receiving a tax credit to support a new feature film production, with filming expected to start soon to boost the local arts scene.  The Blade
  • Imagination Station hosted a Star Wars event that featured lightsaber battles, interactive games and a galactic photo op (Science after Dark Side) for local fans reliving their childhood excitement.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Broadway Elementary School grew its student gardens as part of its annual garden program, with 14-year-old Ana’leahia Leal planting a variety of plants in a raised garden bed.  The Blade

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nate Langbehn powered Toledo baseball into the MAC tournament championship game in his first career start, pitching a strong performance early in the contest. His impressive outing energized teammates and fans as the team now looks toward securing the title.  The Blade
  • Toledo baseball's offense was held scoreless during seven intense innings (in a MAC Tournament final) against Northern Illinois. The team lost the game, showing it struggled to generate runs when it mattered most.  The Blade
  • Bob Ronai retired from his role as athletic director at St. John’s Jesuit—his leadership brought growth and innovation to the Titans.  The Blade
  • Toledo baseball shut out No. 2 seed Kent State in a MAC tournament game in Avon. Their strong pitching led to a key win as they advanced further in the conference contest.  The Blade
  • Tycen Anderson returned to Toledo and hosted a free youth football camp at St John's (his alma mater) to teach footwork and fundamentals to local kids. The camp helped attendees learn new skills and grow their love for the sport.  WTOL
  • On Saturday, the Toledo Mud Hens rallied from a four-run deficit to force extra innings against the Indianapolis Indians but ultimately lost 5-4.  The Blade
