COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spring Meadows Driving Range, run by Noah Bahmanpour and his family for nearly a decade, welcomes golfers of all ages every day until Oct. 31 with free club loans and extended hours until 9:30 p.m. & it honors Sherry Byrnes-Bahmanpour, whose memory inspires this community spot.  WTVG
  • Community members honored fallen veterans during a respectful ceremony at the former Toledo State Hospital Cemetery on Friday, remembering their service and legacy.  WTOL
  • Ostrich Towne, just outside Downtown, is adding a new wine bar called One of Each this summer and updating outdoor seating in The Alley before the Fourth of July. Local artist Dean Davis will paint an ostrich mural on May 27 from 6 to 9 p.m.  Toledo City Paper

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sparkle K’s Auto Spa on Reynolds Road closed in early November, leaving regular customers unable to cancel memberships or obtain refunds & the overgrown, blocked property now appears neglected. Customers are watching for next steps after a recent auction left the car wash in limbo.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nine: Strength in Unity Gala is scheduled for May 30 at The Pinnacle, inviting Toledo locals to join an evening that celebrates unity + local talent. More event details are expected soon.  WTVG
  • Pineapple Press & Design, a historic letterpress studio in downtown Toledo, will host Wood Type Wednesday later this week, inviting locals to experience antique printing techniques. The event at 1827 Vermont Ave costs $35 per person and offers a chance to slow down and appreciate hands-on creativity.  Toledo City Paper
  • Somica Alexander, known as Coach Milli, released her new book Beating the Odds: The Blueprint to Becoming to help readers move past grief and rebuild purpose, hosting an interactive signing event with guided reflection exercises (drawing local interest) that turned the gathering into a personal development retreat.  Toledo City Paper
  • Big Boy, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will tour NW Ohio for America’s 250th anniversary on June 6, stopping in Continental from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and in Fostoria at the Iron Triangle Railpark at 2 p.m. with a major event scheduled on July 14.  WTOL
  • Three Antiques Roadshow appraisers, Alasdair Nichol, Debra J. Force and Nigel Freeman will share their art stories at the Toledo Museum of Art on Sunday, Jun. 14 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Glass Pavilion (no appraisals will be offered) as part of America 250 celebrations moderated by Anna O.   • The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo extended the submission deadline for a permanent sculpture at Swayne Field to June 1 to give local artists extra time to submit proposals for a $3.6 million revitalization, with the winning design announced on Aug. 24.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eight Glass City Academy students earned pre-apprenticeship certificates Friday, stepping closer to skilled trades jobs at the local school.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roundabout construction begins Monday, June 1 at the intersection of Albon and Monclova Roads next to the township administration building, with additional roundabouts planned for summer. Construction will last 45 days and include a temporary gravel road for emergency access monitored by sheriff’s deputies.  Toledo Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doc Martin's Remedy Shoppe and Apothecary opened Friday on N. St. Clair Street in the Hensville district, featuring an ice cream parlor upfront and a full-service pharmacy and walk-in clinic in the back. It now offers flu shots + sandwiches and coffee and holds a city grant for facade improvements.  WTOL

  • Toledo's homeownership fair at Scott High School on June 13 will offer advice and resources for prospective buyers. The event aims to help locals learn the steps to achieve homeownership.  WTOL
