COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Zepf Center celebrated 10 years of its Safety Net runaway shelter at a backyard party Thursday, honoring staff who helped over 2,400 youth manage mental health. The center offers vital support and operates an outreach center (open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, noon to 4 p.m.) for local needs.  WTVG
  • Officer Michael Shaffer was honored on Wednesday after donating his kidney to OSHP Commander Matt Geer, who suffered kidney failure last fall — OSHP awarded him the Distinguished Service Medallion for his selfless act.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • PBS appraisal experts Asaldair Nichol, Debra J. Force, and Nigel Freeman will share hidden treasure discoveries and insights on American art during the Toledo Museum of Art's free (Susan ‘Sue’ Serrott White Memorial Lecture) on Sunday, June 14 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Guests should not bring objects for appraisal.  WTVG
  • Episode 3 of the We the People series takes viewers inside local landmarks such as Spiegel Grove in Fremont and Sauder Village in Archbold. The program streams live Thursdays at 3 p.m. and is available on demand.  WTVG
  • The Toledo Zoo has completed a major renovation of its Reptile House, which now features updated exhibits while keeping its historic design. Visitors can enjoy the refreshed space today and experience a blend of modern elements and preserved legacy.  WTOL
  • Toledo Zoo Reptile House reopens to the public today after renovations that refreshed reptile exhibits. Visitors can explore updated habitats and learn about the animals.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Toledo Public Schools’ gifted education services operated at a $500K loss, and teachers sent a letter to families last week saying cuts to the program were planned. Officials have not yet commented on the proposed reductions.  WTOL
  • Waterville Primary School was re-designated as an Ohio STEAM School for five years after a Jan. 28 evaluation by the Ohio STEM Committee — recognizing its strong focus on inclusive STEAM learning and valuable community partnerships.  Toledo Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Craig Memorial Bridge will close Thursday at 10 a.m. for survey prep work by ODOT and is expected to reopen by about 2 p.m. Drivers are urged to take a detour via Front Street to I-280 to Greenbelt Parkway.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Toledo woman whose life was saved by Lucas Co. DART's drug abuse prevention team joined the group to share her firsthand experience in recovery efforts. Her decision marks a historic move to strengthen local prevention programs.  WTVG
