- ➤ Toledo food programs are preparing for a summer surge in meals for children as donations decline. Seagate Food Bank & Connecting Kids to Meals expect to serve thousands daily once school ends. WTVG
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Toledo children are testing modified lighters at Great Lakes Marketing Research — the only facility nationwide where kids help check child-safety features — before the products hit the market. The company pays $100 per child and will test 1,000 more kids this summer. WTVG
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Applications for Lucas County’s next poet laureate are open after commissioners honored the current laureate on Tuesday — residents may nominate themselves or others by June 19. The selected poet will serve a two-year term starting Sept. 1 and earn a total honorarium of $10,000. WTOL
- ➤ Fort Meigs Historic Site will host the Grand Tactical re-enactment (May 23-24) as part of its annual First Siege event and America 250 celebrations. The site will feature 300-400 re-enactors performing battle displays, parades, and educational programs. Toledo Free Press

- ➤ On May 19, 2026, 209 UToledo students earned graduate and medical degrees at the final spring commencement (marking a significant milestone in the academic calendar). The University of Toledo
- ➤ Eighth-grade students at Jefferson Junior High are turning the school gym into a living wax museum today; they dress as famous figures to bring history to life in their end-of-year project (a creative learning experience). WTOL
- ➤ Parents and staff met at Bowsher High School today as Toledo Public Schools began community meetings on its restructuring plan + families were given their first chance to ask about upcoming changes in the school system. WTOL
- ➤ Penta Career Center launches its new diesel engine systems program today, using two trucks donated by Owens Community College (the donation enabled the expansion of trade skills training). WTOL
- ➤ Kelly Thornton, a single mom of twins, graduates today from Woodward High School with honors thanks to support from Mom's House; her success shows how vital community aid can be in overcoming challenges. WTOL

- ➤ Toledo is hosting the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters conference today, where delegates will vote on measures to address workplace cancer and post-traumatic stress injury — issues affecting local firefighters. WTOL
- ➤ Toledo city awarded $13.5 million in grants to 19 redevelopment projects aimed at enhancing storefronts and reviving vacant spaces across 10 neighborhoods—mostly downtown and south Toledo—from 82 applications. The initiative has also leveraged over $135 million in private investments. WTOL
