  • Fire crews are handling an electrical fire at Mercy College of Ohio (2200 block of Jefferson Street) today, and officials have evacuated everyone with no injuries reported.  WTVG

  • The Town Center at Levis Commons announced an upcoming sale to Tanger, an outlet giant that will change shopping options for local residents. The deal will soon bring new retail choices to the center.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Matthew Folkman will receive his doctor of medicine degree at UToledo tomorrow & begin his orthopaedic surgery residency on July 1, as he commits to giving back to his community in Ohio.  The University of Toledo
  • Eden Tipton, the Cardinal Stritch valedictorian with a 4.4 GPA and a 32 ACT score despite managing POTS, is set to attend Owens Community College this fall to study psychology and law enforcement training — she graduates Sunday.  WTVG
  • University of Toledo student-athletes achieved a record 3.529 GPA in the spring semester, marking the first time they reached a 3.5 average and setting new standards across 14 consecutive semesters. Twelve teams exceeded a 3.5 GPA and every sport earned at least a 3.0.  The University of Toledo

  • At Rossford High School, 26 people took the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance on Wednesday to become U.S. citizens (marking a formal step in their new lives).  WTOL

  • On Tuesday, UToledo Health staff packed 300 meals for kids in need during Hospital Week at the Morse Fitness Center (Health Science Campus).  The University of Toledo
  • Paul Mitchell the School Toledo will host Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day on June 2 in Toledo, offering complimentary haircuts and wash-and-styles to cancer patients and survivors by appointment.  WTVG
  • The American Heart Association will host the new Toledo Heart Walk on Sunday (May 17) at Promenade Park starting at 8:30 a.m.; attendees will hear survivor testimonies and practice CPR to learn heart-healthy steps.  WTVG

  • Rick Marlowe, an off-ice official at Huntington Center, returned nine days after his defibrillator went off — a reaction to new medication took him off the ice during a game; he was greeted by supportive staff before Tuesday night's contest between the Komets and Walleye.  WTOL
