- ➤ Thousands attended the Toledo Air Show at the Toledo Express Airport from May 9 to May 11, where the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds led live flights and static aircraft displays. The event returned after a six-year break + offered interactive exhibits for families + donated its proceeds to local charity. Toledo Free Press

- ➤ Bricks & Minifigs is a Lego store that welcomes creative builders of all abilities at its Toledo location at 4204 W Sylvania Ave., opened in November by 24-year-old Donny Stewart and his mom. - ➤ Toledo is the backdrop for a new spinoff of The Office that is filmed in a mockumentary style — the show follows the antics of a struggling Midwest newspaper staff and will premiere in September. WTOL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UToledo will install a new footbridge over Douglas Road today at about 10 a.m.—the 78-foot span, built in two pieces, will connect the engineering buildings to the rest of campus as part of a $3.4 million project. Douglas Road will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. while additional deck work is scheduled for May 20. The University of Toledo

- ➤ Toledo Fire Chief Allison Armstrong flew in a Thunderbirds F-16 on May 9 during their dress rehearsal for the Toledo Air Show over Mother's Day weekend. Armstrong was nominated as the Hometown Hero and experienced high-G maneuvers while her jet climbed three miles in the sky. Toledo Free Press
- ➤ City leaders informed residents that the sinkhole on Arlington Avenue, caused by a sewer line break, will have its repair work begin mid-June and is expected to last until December at a cost of nearly $8 million. Repair crews will remove water with giant pumps inserted via a new shaft while local residents remain concerned about detour issues due to reckless driving. WTVG
