- ➤ Lucas County Children Services will host its eighth community conversation on May 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wayman Palmer YMCA (200 E. Bancroft St.) to discuss the new Family Help Center hotline and other resources that help families manage conflicts and support children’s safety. WTVG

- ➤ A 25-year-old Toledo man on a student visa was arrested on April 30 for allegedly scamming an elderly couple out of $50,000 and was extradited to Michigan to face charges of larceny and false pretenses—Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on him as he faced investigation in other elder scams. - ➤ The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences will celebrate over 200 graduates on Friday, May 16 at Savage Arena with a commencement ceremony starting at 2 p.m. Dr. Reshma Jagsi, an internationally recognized physician-scientist, will deliver the keynote address and receive an honorary doctor of science degree—highlighting her focus on equity in medicine. - ➤ Toledo plans a ten-mile water main to carry water from the Low Service Pumping Station near Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge to the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant, which will serve 500,000 customers and pass through Jerusalem Township and Oregon. City leaders and the design team will review the project's construction schedule, completed work and future steps at a public meeting on May 21 at 6 p.m. at Eisenhower Intermediate School in Oregon — addressing environmental and traffic issues. - ➤ More than 1,000 participants will join the American Heart Association's Heart Walk in downtown Toledo on Sunday at Promenade Park to promote cardiovascular health and support CPR education. - ➤ Local mental health providers are watching proposed Medicaid cuts that could reduce access to vital medications at places like Zepf—officials warn that if funding declines, vulnerable patients may be forced to rely more on emergency room care.
