EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences will celebrate 209 graduates at a commencement ceremony on May 15 (2 p.m.) at John F. Savage Arena. AAMC President Dr. David J.   • Perrysburg school district says a shortage of substitute drivers may force bus route cancellations before the end of the school year. Parents should watch for updates from the district to plan for any changes.  WTOL
  • Toledo Public Schools will host 5:30 p.m. meetings this week for families with students at seven schools closing under the Transformation 2.0 Plan; sessions are set for May 18 at Bowsher, May 19 at Scott, May 20 at Waite, and May 21 at Woodward and Start.  WTVG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers from the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science released an early season projection on May 7 forecasting a moderate harmful algal bloom in western Lake Erie; heavy rains since March have increased phosphorous runoff, and if precipitation continues, bloom conditions could worsen and affect summer recreation.  WTOL

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department's Traffic Safety Program kicked off the annual Click It or Ticket campaign Monday to remind residents to buckle up while driving around Toledo and Lucas County. Local partners stress that seatbelt use saves lives.  WTOL
