- ➤ Mom’s House and The Pregnancy Center held the grand opening of Laurie’s Place on Friday in Toledo to support single moms and dads with free early childhood education and resources—hundreds attended the event. The new center offers a family wellness area for mothers, a child care center, and dedicated support for dads with mental health services available four days a week. WTVG
- ➤ Local initiatives this month offer residents many ways to engage — the Bowling Green Historic Preservation Commission invites community members on a self-guided tour of historic homes in May, RubyCats asks for volunteers to care for adoptable cats, and Midstory received an award for its project on Asian voices. Kranz Toledo Express Airport with aerial displays planned by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the 180th Fighter Wing. - ➤ A traffic stop just before midnight Thursday on Manhattan Blvd. ended with suspect John Dorn, 54, and an officer going to the hospital—Dorn struggled with the officer and the officer sustained lacerations, bruising, and swelling to his right hand after a failed tasering. WTVG

- ➤ Wonderland Studio in downtown Toledo is a fun art space where anyone can learn to create projects—even without prior talent—through beginner-friendly classes taught by Shannon Eis (the owner). She, who left a job at the Toledo Jeep plant, now offers art lessons in various local spots while making creative pieces from materials like wood, metal, and resin. WTVG

- ➤ Toledo Public Schools held an Ability Games event on Friday at Rogers High School where students competed in track and field events and other sports — showing that everyone is equal. The games helped classmates enjoy sports together and celebrate inclusion — with many saying they had fun. WTVG

- ➤ Residents in Luckey are worried about high levels of radioactivity in their drinking water after tests reported elevated readings—county health officials say the water remains safe and EPA results are expected in about 30 days while some residents seek federal compensation. WTOL

- ➤ City crews and the Ohio EPA are monitoring water quality in Toledo after heavy rains caused significant sewer overflows into Swan Creek and Delaware Creek.
